Work Equipment Inspections

The main legislation concerning work equipment is The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).

PUWER Info

Regulation 6 of PUWER requires a competent person to carry out an inspection of work equipment.

When work equipment is first installed, and when it is moved or relocated, it must undergo PUWER checks to make sure that it has been correctly installed and is operating safely. Where it is possible that the equipment is exposed to conditions that could cause it to deteriorate, it must be inspected regularly.

PUWER assessment frequencies depend on the equipment type, associated risk and work environment, these are usually determined by a suitable risk assessment.
